about

"More than an act of sonic transportation, it challenges the listener – is this what you hear when you think of a creek? Carr might have composed a fake, but the elements of the watery sound world she chooses to shine a magnifying glass on are instructive." --- Daryl Worthington, THE QUIETUS

"Varying creaks and trickles bubble up like the song of a decaying shipwreck with Carr weaving in metallic chimes and echoing bird calls to add strange signs of life. It’s eerie at times, but there’s a surprise peacefulness to fake creek that keeps me returning to its aqueous dimensions. Carr does an amazing job of capturing the beautiful underwater spookiness that has always drawn me underwater. Wonderful." Brad Rose, FOXY DIGITALIS

"This foray is exquisite in foley practice and sound design layering. Carrying cinematic qualities it is easy to get swept into this atmosphere and find yourself in a swell of tension from the surrounding currents." -- Benjamin Charles, IGLOO MAG

"The result is an amazing soundscape, especially when realizing this is a live recording from performances she did in Cafe Oto and 100 Years Gallery in 2021. It must have been quite a joy to watch her working with her material on stage creating this ‘underwater soundscape." -- AMBIENTBLOG.NET
---------------------------

This is a live performance of me attempting to sound like an underwater field recording of a creek. It incorporates a tub of water, a straw, nails, beads, bird horns, a whisk, steel wool, a small branch, rocks, a hollow log, a small drum and a zither.
I have spent many years recording waterways, and here I thought to try and sound like one, emulating the snap of shrimp, the grunting of fish, and the mysterious rustles and groans I so often have enjoyed listening to underwater. - Kate Carr.
-------------------------------
Fake Creek was performed twice in 2021 at Cafe Oto and 100 years gallery. Thanks to Viv Corringham, David Toop, Phil Maguire, Matt Atkins and Prof LoFi who I shared a stage with on those occasions.
